For employees

What Timerfly sees, and what it never sees

If your company uses Timerfly, this page explains exactly what the app on your computer records, when, and who can see it. Everything recorded about you, you can see too.

When it records

Only during your work day

Recording starts when you press Start work, or by itself in your work hours if your company chooses that, always with a notification. It stops when you press Stop work.

You can see when it’s on

The Timerfly icon next to the clock shows whether recording is on, on a break or stopped.

Breaks and private time record nothing

Take a break or switch to private time from the app. Nothing about what you do is recorded then; your manager sees only that it was a break or private time.

It works the same offline

If the internet drops, the app keeps your working minutes on your computer and sends them when you’re back online. Nothing extra is collected.

What it records

Apps and websites

The name of the app in front, and the website address in your browser, with how long each was used.

Active or idle

Whether the keyboard or mouse was used recently, to tell working from idle. Not which keys or what you clicked.

Window titles, only if your company turns them on

For example a document’s name or an email’s subject line. Off unless your company switches it on.

Screenshots, only if your company turns them on

Off until your company switches them on. Then one every few minutes while you’re working, never on a break or in private time. They can be blurred. Kept 45 days to 6 months depending on the plan, then deleted.

Arrival and leaving

When your work day started and ended, compared with your shift, so late and early are marked for you instead of written in a register.

Your computer

Its name, operating system and the app’s version, so the company knows which computers are set up.

What it never records

What you type

No keystrokes, no passwords, no messages. The app only knows whether the keyboard or mouse was used.

Camera and microphone

The app never turns them on and has no access to them.

Your documents and what you copy

The app doesn’t open, read or upload your documents, and never reads what you copy and paste.

Your location

No GPS or location. If your company lists its office networks, it only marks work as office or remote.

Anything outside the work day

Before you start, after Stop work, during breaks and private time: nothing.

Who can see what

You

Your own day in full: the timeline, apps and websites, and your screenshots if there are any. Nothing about you is hidden from you.

Owners and admins

Everyone’s working time, apps and websites, attendance and, if they’re on, screenshots.

Your department’s manager

The people in the departments they manage. Not the rest of the company.

Your colleagues

By default, which days people in your department worked or were away, and who works which shift. Leave shows only as “Away”, never the reason. Your company can change this to “only your own” or “everyone”. Colleagues never see your apps, websites or screenshots.

Questions

Is Timerfly spyware?

No. It’s installed openly by your company, you’re told when the day starts, the icon shows when it’s on, and you see everything recorded about you. It records time at work, not what you type or say.

Can my manager read my messages or emails?

No. Timerfly records which app or website was in use, not what’s inside it. If your company turns on window titles, the title of a window (such as an email’s subject) is recorded, which is why that setting is off by default.

Can I see my screenshots?

Yes, on your own My Day page. Your company can also let you delete your own.

Does it record on my personal computer?

Only where the app is installed and you’ve signed in, and only during your work day. On a computer without the app, nothing is recorded.

Who decides what’s recorded?

Your company. Timerfly processes the data on its behalf under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act. For questions about your data, ask your company first; you can also write to us.

Questions about your data
